For an extra touch of romanticism, decorate your table or serving tray with pink flowers, and consider adding vintage teacups for serving tea with your scones. Charity shops or flea markets are the best places to find them, often at incredibly low prices—in Germany, you can find teacups with matching saucers for as little as 1 to 3 dollars. If these aren't available in your area, you can ask family, friends, or neighbours; many people are happy to give away antique items they no longer need. Some of my teacups are family heirlooms, and I cherish them as a way to keep memories of loved ones with me.
If vintage crockery or table linens aren't an option, there are plenty of other ways to embellish your table. You can use fresh flowers, foliage, handmade items, or small ornaments like ribbon laces, bows, embroidery, or dried flowers. Play around with these elements by adding them to regular cups, jars, tea towels or vases to create a romantic and special touch.
With the scene set, let's move on to our easy vegan pink heart scones recipe.
Recipe
Scones are a classic treat that can be enjoyed at any time of the day. Here's a simple recipe for pink heart scones that is not only vegan-friendly but also fun to make. The pink hue comes from beetroot juice or powder, adding a romantic touch to these scones.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/3 cup margarine (you can use oil or butter if you're not vegan)
- 1/3 cup plant-based milk (or regular milk for non-vegans)
- 1/3 cup beetroot water (from pickled beetroots, or boiling fresh beets) or 1 tablespoon beetroot powder (you will probably need more milk or water)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough: combine all the ingredients in a large bowl. Use a fork to crush the margarine and mix it with the other ingredients, forming a homogeneous dough.
2. Adjust Consistency: if the dough feels too sticky, add a little flour. If it's too dry, add a bit more beetroot juice to achieve a workable texture.
3. Shape the Scones: take the dough out of the bowl and flatten it with a rolling pin to a thickness of about 1.5 cm (a little bit more than 1/2 in). Use a cookie cutter to cut out heart-shaped scones (or any shape you prefer).
4. Bake the Scones: arrange the cut scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake them in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 20 minutes. Note that the vibrant pink colour will slightly fade during baking but should still retain a lovely pink shade.
A Note on Cooking with Love
Cooking is an opportunity to infuse food with warmth and care, transforming a simple activity into a moment of joy. When you make these pink heart scones, consider it a form of love and self-love. Taking time to knead the dough, cut out the shapes, arrange them on a tray and lay the table can be a soothing process. It's a chance to romanticise daily life and explore our creativity.
These scones are perfect for a light breakfast, afternoon tea, or a sweet snack. Enjoy them with your favourite jam or a cup of tea. Don't forget to share them with loved ones or enjoy them by yourself, you deserve a little sweetness in your day. 💕
